GIL JACOB KORN

Prior to establishing a boutique tax, trust and estate law firm, most recently, Gil J. Korn worked in Vancouver as a member of Manulife Financial’s renowned Tax and Estate Planning Group.

Gil has also worked at a major international accounting firm, as a member of its tax practice, and was a tax associate at a well known local law firm where he continued his tax specialization while also doing work in the corporate / commercial areas. He has gained experience in both personal and corporate income tax matters, including trusts and partnerships, in both the domestic and international / non-resident areas. He has covered much of the spectrum of business succession and estate planning in the course of his work over the years.

Education
Having attained an undergraduate degree in math and economics from McGill University Gil went on to study law and business at Dalhousie University in Halifax, gaining admission to the B.C. Bar in August of 1996.

Publications
Gil has co-authored articles that have been published in the prestigious Canadian Tax Journal, including feature submissions dealing with inter-spousal transfers of property, and employee stock options. His writings have also appeared in the Financial Post, British Columbia Chartered Accounts magazine “Beyond Numbers”, and the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriters’ publication “CALU Report”. He has written and presented two papers for the B.C. Tax Conference organized by the Canadian Tax Foundation.

When not working
Gil enjoys his community service which has included sitting as a board member of two local charities, and tutoring the Indepth Tax course run by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. He is an avid runner and is forever trying to break his personal best marathon time.
 
NANCY C. MILFORD
 
Nancy has recently relocated to BC from Nova Scotia and is excited to be joining the Korn Law team. In Nova Scotia, Nancy was the Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Health Organizations Protective Association, an insurance reciprocal providing liability insurance to each of the NS District Health Authorities. Prior to that, Nancy was Director of Risk Management and Legal Services at the Capital District Health Authority and its preceding organization, the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, for eight years. During this time, Nancy provided legal advice on a number of health law topics. She also wrote and lectured on a variety of health law and end of life issues and continues to be on the editorial board of Risk Management in Canadian Healthcare, a LexisNexis® Butterworths publication. Nancy’s passion for health law evolved in part from her 12 years nursing experience, first as a surgical nurse, then as an operating room nurse and finally as the manager of an operating room.
 
Education
Nancy attained her nursing education from the Yarmouth Regional Hospital School of Nursing and Dalhousie University School of Nursing.    Her law degree is from Dalhousie University. Nancy was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1995.
 
When not working
Nancy is an outdoor sports enthusiast and is very excited to have the opportunity to take advantage of all BC has to offer ~ hiking, running, biking, golfing, and downhill and cross country skiing. Nancy’s cherished labradoodle is a registered St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog, and Nancy looks forward to resuming their visits to long term care facilities.   Nancy’s other volunteer activities in Nova Scotia were as an Executive member of the N.S . Medical Legal Society and a Board member of Cancer Care Nova Scotia.
